All equally moving in my own discipline. <br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div>First was the Baja California, located on the upper level of the museum. Featuring imagery from <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic; ">National Geographic</span> photographer, Ralph Lee Hopkins. This exhibition began September 19th and will continue until the 3rd of January. </div><div><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiFmI1zf7e2wx62CvbeUuoDkitm6AW27TyXGnD67aSplg21AVUk8ZWfVs3nzFe-UC2emHeo9iwAw2UGyr-LbSVjqL61-QipFWgVpMbBOvaVS8mohrll8JgI30iGxk-CBefoH5yq0Z88j0/s400/baja_whale_hop.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415591461014883810" /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;">Next was Aerial Portraits of the American West: Photographs by John Shelton. Shelton is an acclaimed geologist and this event marks the first time his work is displayed. This exhibition started May 11th and will continue on through the latter part of next year. <br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 313px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8LZuQczX_at713UpEbrJBte7cuX8vOr_8099PON4oxzM_QKEZfCL-Hky0X01Oo5JdIcIif1lItzrCWUaKuY0FKD-rQJROMOQLLSx4owP0jwOcSHpGNlj8PoKe_ctmnSd69LaoDMGAcb4/s400/shel_shiprock.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415594135982891346" /><div><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: left;">Followed by a short film entitled, Ocean Oasis, which discussed the coral reefs off the coast of Baja, California. And the bigger picture of how the ecosystems of both land and sea are connected. <br /></div></div><div><br /></div><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 220px; height: 170px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl_VwKV-9jBIKDQssUcIuuzbxx72gncof3NPCuZTFhfhEDqoLYwd5IiwpO_2WlaJlcQInUPYzHtmV9rISI4MdONutqKtY4GoxpYraz4kdqn-V-A9zgZ91mxuaItaEEnZlgd9bkXrd9OhM/s400/theater-manta-brady.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415597329668270962" /><br /></div><div>And I ended the day with Darwin: Evolution, Revolution. This exhibit went through the research that was published in <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;">Origin of Evolution</span> to Darwin's own origin and how his work was reflected his own life. This event started November 7th and will be ending the 28th of February. <br /><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz5inw0sXd8JuKvKGUDjrc-jN5yEKPzNM0Lq3yzZuXGGYNcgzPQKgJWwm9Vo9n0wjl4KCt-JqTLiWbXzAXMIGwvZQTAZTX3CA42dNI8mlKBfYocByWijcneeN-uFUob16TFKiakxZ0dVY/s400/young_darwin200.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415597339371183282" /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;">After views all four exhibitions I can away with more knowledge, but with the new awareness came more questions. Questions of how and why things or events are categorized as natural. But I also can to appreciate the ecosystem that we live in and how science can be viewed as artistic, even though many people separate the two fields. Specifically the Ocean Oasis film, changed the way I view marine life. And although at times big creature frighten me, I understand that they are part of a greater scope of life, where I too inhabit. After taking my first art course at Cal State, I have been interested in displaying my own work. In viewing these art events, it inspires my own ideas of how I might in the future go about making those ideas reality. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">My only criticism would be one, I wish I spent more time in the Aerial Exhibition, but also that the Ocean Oasis film might have included the possible human damages including the messages of how to preserve these beauties. But I guess that is what people always here about. And I learned about Darwin's process of going about publishing or having doubts about publishing his work. And I also got an opportunity to interact with a green iguana which was really cool, this creature has the most beautiful eyes. </div>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-25374595838677877022009-12-15T13:45:00.000-08:002009-12-15T14:15:41.441-08:00Art Event # 4: Dance 324 Show<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRb1rcuKQfrqq8buKn-whPFpmbbpHon2Kn3DZwK3jBH9N9bHEFhM5DaDIBvZtx16Fd1FAOuPYzBaDbk1iumQmN3foJw9Go4oYkDhzyL6_JvIvSdew3AnOEBxmY1Rt8oEUGCCqZqs5piJE/s1600-h/DNCE3241.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRb1rcuKQfrqq8buKn-whPFpmbbpHon2Kn3DZwK3jBH9N9bHEFhM5DaDIBvZtx16Fd1FAOuPYzBaDbk1iumQmN3foJw9Go4oYkDhzyL6_JvIvSdew3AnOEBxmY1Rt8oEUGCCqZqs5piJE/s400/DNCE3241.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415582919380825842" /></a>All I can say is, students on this campus are amazing artists. This show took place on the CSUSM campus, December 10th, 2009 at 2pm in ART 101 (as seen on the flyer). The event emphasized dance and film. From remote trio dances to Shawdow Dancing. These students took a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary focus on these clips of music videos. <div><br /></div><div>I definitely can see and appreciate the output of the usage of film to convey a message. After taking a film studies class I understand the film production process. This goes back to the importance of the field of Graphic Design and the importance of output and messages needed to be conveyed. Although art does not have to weigh in the technical aspect, seeing this event helped me understand the importance of output. </div><div><br /></div><div> Within my own work, the usage of music and the emotions and imagery that can develop from the rhythmic flow. I know that when I listen to music images always come into my mind. And seeing this event inspired me to see the rhythms of music to interpret into art. Whether it be a flyer, flash illustration, or stop film clip. </div><div><br /></div><div>In viewing this event, I saw Filipino traditional dancing, and that was the first time that I have ever seen that type of dance. Which is vaguely pathetic because I am part Filipino ethnically, guess that means I might be researching into my own identity and heritage. </div><div><br /></div><div>My only criticism for this event would be to the Remote Dance, I guess I just wished for a little more creatively, but other than that all of the projects that I was able to view I enjoyed. </div><div><br /></div>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-56580491478135962722009-12-08T19:54:00.000-08:002009-12-08T19:56:24.014-08:00Text Heavy Project: California Indian Day<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFgk8cSe-TeJOZ5NzXWVYHApzPO8pUXHOYmlTW3DVrTEp3VXbDA1mzVVG31x1D_5CVWq1bdq91a4dUTyrXrluvlzwja4uEBAxYjrrSc20iQb-6q_nMBwoOReo4sVknaIQLRgBkbukc09w/s1600-h/Text+Heavy+Project.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 258px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFgk8cSe-TeJOZ5NzXWVYHApzPO8pUXHOYmlTW3DVrTEp3VXbDA1mzVVG31x1D_5CVWq1bdq91a4dUTyrXrluvlzwja4uEBAxYjrrSc20iQb-6q_nMBwoOReo4sVknaIQLRgBkbukc09w/s400/Text+Heavy+Project.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5413080191797466418" /></a>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-78128780562398801052009-12-07T20:52:00.000-08:002009-12-07T21:11:09.112-08:00Art Event #3: Vocal and Jazz Ensemble Joint Concert<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVfjHQGDCOW9JCbL9lC1AErjKurCcuKcO5DX53OyRJsJU7-QvLs05vm6iqKRduNz9II1T52AH70H2qWtP5WfiZTLDhtWTWbPCh95AI-md3L4kpWEdK96pr-mMwNtOERo9V3DEmDTjccZU/s1600-h/vocal_jazz.png"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVfjHQGDCOW9JCbL9lC1AErjKurCcuKcO5DX53OyRJsJU7-QvLs05vm6iqKRduNz9II1T52AH70H2qWtP5WfiZTLDhtWTWbPCh95AI-md3L4kpWEdK96pr-mMwNtOERo9V3DEmDTjccZU/s400/vocal_jazz.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412728210483322306" /></a><br /><div><br /><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>It is always great to see fellow classmates displaying their talents on stage! At these event I recognized some familiar faces singing and playing instruments. The first part of the concert was a vocal performance, I recognized Christopher from my GESS class and MUSC class, and Kelsey I met at the dorms. The following part was a Jazz performance, with David and Christopher again on the mic. And they did such a great job!<div><br /></div><div>This event took place today, December 7th 2009 in Arts 111 at 7pm. I felt really happy after seeing this event. The singers sang classic songs like "Stand By Me" and a song by Steve Wonder. </div><div><br /></div><div>During this time in my life I really am getting into instrumental music. So hearing the Jazz performance felt like I was listening to my iPod. They played some songs that I recognized by the accredited John Coltrane. </div><div><br /></div><div>Seeing this event really reaffirmed my appreciation for the Arts and wish more people appreciate the Arts and what it can produce. </div><div><br /></div><div>There was a few technical difficulties with sound, and a few off keys from some singers, overall I enjoyed the performances. </div><div><br /></div><div>I learned about a pioneer of bee bop I believe his name was Dizzy. I could be wrong, I forgot to write it down. But I'll be googling it! </div></div>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-71184657892325768292009-12-07T14:17:00.000-08:002009-12-07T20:47:52.155-08:00Art Event # 2: Poetic JusticeNo not the movie with Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur. This event was also right here on campus, (CSUSM), with acclaimed poets like Sharon Elise (Professor here at Cal State) and Ant Black (CSUSM Alumni), known for their rhythmic messages of personal accounts and harsh realities. <div><br /></div><div>This event took place in the Clarke Field House in the Great Salon, Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 7pm. This fourth annual event had sponsorships from Mondo's and Mission Bank. Which means free food and notebooks for attendees :) yay!</div><div><br /></div><div>Hearing these poets left me thinking about my own expression abilities. And thinking of possible classes or places were I can perfect my craft of expresssion. Maybe it will help me in the professional world. </div><div><br /></div><div>A lot of the poets reaffirmed the things that I am learning in my SOC 313: Race and Ethnic Relations class with Professor Elise. White supermacy, silencing of people of color, color blind racism, and colonization. </div><div><br /></div><div>My only criticism is that more people should have attended. Last year it was a totally different atmoshpere, and I was excited to see that same feelings in the air. But was a little let down, but I took home some burritos, so too bad for those who missed out. (LOL)</div><div><br /></div><div>And I learned that events like this one excite me to learn and know more. And possibly find my area of study to go into seeing as I'm really undecided at the moment. </div>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-3316904329499135262009-12-07T11:27:00.000-08:002009-12-07T20:50:08.914-08:00Art Event #1: Art Exhibition VSAR 180<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioqovCl8KEn0O19wXKWo-xbJ8W0TgBxD0oiu9PTY3YRuY-wu1iK_xoRcJ0qlTHIPcCoq0F5p5afWAuo9f4F7XH7i9z7vDz0eput_4Nstb4l5d55UsYTsegV9zDU33meO5hNnolpXzHvGE/s1600-h/vsar180.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 290px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioqovCl8KEn0O19wXKWo-xbJ8W0TgBxD0oiu9PTY3YRuY-wu1iK_xoRcJ0qlTHIPcCoq0F5p5afWAuo9f4F7XH7i9z7vDz0eput_4Nstb4l5d55UsYTsegV9zDU33meO5hNnolpXzHvGE/s400/vsar180.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412723067587121986" /></a><br />This event happened right on campus, CSUSM that is, in the Arts Great Hall (Arts 180). An art exhibition using negative and positive, construction paper-like imagery. Bring back memories of my own childhood of craft time in preschool during the afternoon, right after nap time. But these figures in this piece showed a different emotion. Emotions of grief, agony, and even mortality as the figures that start out as students turned into zombies. Walking towards what looked like a "Big Business" type figure, cigar in the mouth and all, the antagonist of this tale. <div><br /></div><div>Overall, the display fostered familiar feelings of agony and grief. Specifically about the recent budget crisis, that ironically seems to be occurring much to quickly. But it is not the first time an event like this occurred. To read more about that go to SaveCSUSM.com. </div><div><br /></div><div>The usage of the negative and positive space to foster emotions and it was only two toned. Seeing that definitely inspired me work for the next project coming up. (Stay tuned :))</div><div><br /></div><div>The only criticism that I'd have to say is, I want to see more. Students on campus need to be aware of the events that are going to effect them. And more artistic voices need to be heard on this subject matter. </div><div><br /></div><div>And I learned that I'm not the only student that has those feelings. </div><div><br /></div>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-88528414381114582992009-12-04T19:03:00.001-08:002009-12-04T19:03:42.842-08:00Word Art<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQHwR57_0pB2mbgVg7pNx4IkOWxo0KVKNKiNZrEDphaOW4ifeaQOASgPGZQ_D6ZoOBktn0NLSUXctWwU2XPQs35ZrpcNWtzn9BGLmF-WxLPQ-yPSbWTL0LSpa7ODYwQjCvr4QxJzBUxaU/s1600-h/Word+Art.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQHwR57_0pB2mbgVg7pNx4IkOWxo0KVKNKiNZrEDphaOW4ifeaQOASgPGZQ_D6ZoOBktn0NLSUXctWwU2XPQs35ZrpcNWtzn9BGLmF-WxLPQ-yPSbWTL0LSpa7ODYwQjCvr4QxJzBUxaU/s400/Word+Art.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411582422421155554" /></a>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500426122262198848.post-35552708537344624332009-12-04T17:54:00.001-08:002009-12-04T18:04:34.578-08:00Double Meaning<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcK4Z6FypSQQ6vyoZGuF7W8edeXDpWENl5iqOlURY_KKT8jSxoGslu4ltH-SaxAVXPzYQj7WX-sy_1ohtJ8ZiiSnnNKNCApXeO4RyAG37QQ0J-EZtN0sWPJ8D8gFTZ3H9WCWq2zM_KrZM/s1600-h/Double+Meaning.jpg"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:13px;"><br /></span><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcK4Z6FypSQQ6vyoZGuF7W8edeXDpWENl5iqOlURY_KKT8jSxoGslu4ltH-SaxAVXPzYQj7WX-sy_1ohtJ8ZiiSnnNKNCApXeO4RyAG37QQ0J-EZtN0sWPJ8D8gFTZ3H9WCWq2zM_KrZM/s400/Double+Meaning.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5411564782600346642" /></a><div>"Rufus Star" was inspired by Spongebob's favorite friend, Patrick Star. "><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px; ">The usage of the internet has become the primary tool that enables the vase distribution of any image. Anyone anywhere in the world with internet access can log in, download, preview an image. As it is said we are in the digital age. Techniques such as cool hunting and viral imagery gives way to "legal" copying/ stealing of creative thought. I guess you can call it creative when the idea that was taken you thought was creative, :) (Question 1).</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px;">Which gives way to graphic design, since it is a job that involves the usage of imagery, the future of this field has just begun. Personally I think that our society will become lazier and lazier with the uprise of technology, but that is another subject entirely (Question 2).</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px; ">I don't really care if I'm politically offensive, but any "smart person" would know the best ways to target an audience. In this day and age, it is the INTERNET, as I discussed earlier, everyone from everywhere with internet access can view anything if it is on the web. And considering McCain's lack of internet-based, future technological savvy-ness during the campaign is clearly obvious beside his political platform of why he lost the election (Question 3). </span><br /></p></span>Chanelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09623521948880838431noreply@blogger.com0
